thanks to you
The Little Sisters of the poor here in Cincinnati operate St. Paul’s Archbishop Leibold Home – a home for the elderly poor. Three nursing units care for the more infirm residents, while two independent living floors provide a home-like atmosphere for low-income elderly who enjoy access to daily activities, meals and support services.

We Franciscans have three of our own friars who live with the Little Sisters and receive the best of health care in their retired lifestyle.  Fr. Cyprian Berens offers daily Mass for the Sisters and residents and delights the residents with stories about his early days in ministry.

THANKS TO YOU the Franciscans were able to send a gift to the Little Sisters of the Poor to enable them to continue their loving service and ministry to the elderly poor.

Your generosity has allowed the friars do what they do best – reach out to the poor and needy and bring the message of Jesus to many.  Bless you!

The many faces of St. Francis
One of our friars has an interesting collection of over 75 postcards from all over the world bearing the image of St. Francis of Assisi in the likeness of the people of the country from which they came. Although St. Francis was Italian, it is interesting to see how many cultures have “adopted” him as being their special friend.  The universal appeal of St. Francis and his message crosses all cultures, religions, and boundaries: that  we are brothers and sisters to each other, that we should respect all of God’s creation and be at peace with one another.
You Can Change a Life
The Franciscans have many opportunities to celebrate. This month we celebrate the growth of our province by welcoming new men to our formation program and by extending good wishes to others in different stages of their Franciscans formation.

In June, we celebrated a novice who made his temporary religious profession of vows.  He will now continue his studies in Chicago.  The San Damiano Franciscan Novitiate welcomed two new brothers from our province who will begin their year of intense study of Franciscan life.  At St. Anthony Friary and Shrine in Cincinnati, we welcomed six new postulants who began their first year of formation by living and praying with the friars as they begin to discern their Franciscan journey.

Our young men are provided with many educational opportunities to grow by studying church history, the history of the Franciscan Order and the importance of religious vows.  Our friars in temporary vows in Chicago will be exploring ministries this summer or attending Franciscan studies at St. Bonaventure University in New York State.

We are proud of our young men in formation who desire to be Franciscan.  They are learning many good things about the ministries the friars are involved in throughout the province, especially our work among the poor and needy and in our mission in Jamaica.

Education is a costly venture these days.  Your gift of $100, $75 or $50 - or any amount – would be a wonderful gift to these young men.  They are well aware that many good people continue to make their lives possible, and you touch them in a very special way by your generosity to our formation programs.  They pray for your daily, as I do.    May the Lord bless your kindness!
