Friars in Negril, Jamaica, left to right: Tim Lamb, Jim Bok, Colin King, Tyler Grudi and Daniel Cruz
Life at Mary, Gate of Heaven Friary in Negril, Jamaica, has taken on a new face! Well, actually, three new faces. On Aug. 20 Tim Lamb finally arrived after waiting weeks for his documents to arrive from the Ministry of Labour. Tim is taking up permanent residence with Colin and me. On Aug. 26, Tyler Grudi and Daniel Cruz (both from Holy Name Province) arrived, welcomed by Tropical Depression Ida and nonstop rain. As part of the Brothers Walking Together project, Tyler and Daniel will live and minister with us in the Jamaican mission for the next nine months. Colin and I are thrilled to have Tim, Tyler and Daniel join our fraternity.
COVID is spiking in Jamaica and the government has imposed serious lockdowns: Saturday night until Wednesday morning. Colin and Jim took advantage of the first lockdown to get some paperwork done and to simply rest. With the second lockdown, Colin was determined to do something physical, like paint the hall. He solicited Tim, Tyler and Daniel to assist. I elected to sit out the painting and sit at my desk, knocking off some much-needed paperwork. I assured my brothers that I feel no guilt.
Next week, Tyler and Daniel finish quarantine and, along with Tim, will get their feet wet in the ministry. This is a very exciting time for us, yea mon! We pray that God will continue to bless our Franciscan mission in Jamaica!
