Fr. Robert with St. Francis prayer

Fr. Robert Seay, OFM

“Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.” (Carter G. Woodson, founder of Black History Month)

The purpose of Black History Month, celebrated in the United States every February, is to educate and bring forth the historical accomplishment and achievements of black people in the world and the Church.

We are aware of the exclusion of blacks in the history books, which created an invisible people having little or no importance in the eyes of society.

Therefore, it is imperative that we strive to correct this imbalance through education and commitment.

We, as Franciscans, should take this seriously as it is in our DNA to be instruments of understanding.
