The Friars Club is partnering with the Cincinnati Zoo throughout April to collect old cell phones with the goal of winning $5,000. That’s 35 scholarships for kids to enjoy Friars Club programs for free. Cell phones contain an ore called Coltan, which is mined in endangered gorilla habitats in Africa. Reducing the demand for Coltan will help save these animals and their habitat. Cell phones will be collected through April 30. They can be brought to the Friars Club, 4300 Vine Street, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Collection boxes for your location are also available.
