Fr. Frank Jasper traveled to St. Joseph Interprovincial Friary in Chicago in early May for meetings and to visit the temporary professed friars. While there, he also took the opportunity to spend time with retired friars from Sacred Heart Province at Felician Village in Manitowoc, Wis., where he was very impressed by the facility.
Two Cincinnati Poor Clare Sisters also visited Chicago in May. Sr. Doris Gerke and Sr. Vickie Griner gave a presentation titled “The Poor Clares: Our Charism from the 13th Century to the 21st Century, and Beyond.” They used video segments from Br. Bill Short’s talks at their Holy Name Federation Poor Clare meetings in November 2021, and from Catherine Mooney’s 2017 lecture on St. Clare at Boston College. Catherine is the author of Clare of Assisi and the Thirteenth-Century Church: Religious Women, Rules, and Resistance. The sisters focused their presentation on the relationship St. Clare had with St. Francis and the friars and how that tradition continues today.
